RBD-Box2The Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM) has announced that the second annual Religious Brothers Day will be celebrated on May 1, 2018, the Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker.

Begun in 2017, Religious Brothers Day is a recognition and celebration of the gift of the vocation of religious brotherhood.  Members of the Church are invited to, in the words of the Vatican document, Identity and Mission of the Religious Brother in the Church, “shed light on the identity of the Religious Brother and the value and necessity of this vocation.”

For the Lasallian family, it is a chance to give thanks specifically for the De La Salle Christian Brothers, as well as to inspire and invite young men to consider a vocation to the Brothers’ life.

Brothers’ communities and Lasallian ministries are encouraged to promote Religious Brothers Day through local awareness-raising  activities and celebrations, and to share those on social media using the hashtag #religiousbrothersday.  You can follow posts at brothersvocation.org social media pages for FacebookTwitter, and Instagram.

Christian Brothers Conference has gathered ideas and resources for participating in Religious Brothers Day.  Ideas include:

  • Offering specific prayers or a day of prayer for vocations to the consecrated life and Brothers vocation;
  • Holding a vocation fair;
  • Giving classroom presentations on consecrated life and the Brothers vocation;
  • Showing videos about Brothers’ vocations and stories of Brothers’ lives;
  • Inviting young people to consider a vocation to the religious life;
  • Sending hand-written notes or emails of gratitude to Brothers you know.
