Brother Chris Patino makes his temporary profession

On Saturday, August 9, 2008, Christopher Alexander Patiño pronounced his first vows as a member of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools  -- Fratres Scholarum Christianarum – and of the District of San Francisco.  Brother Chris Patiño, FSC, who is 24 years old, is an alumnus of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, a graduate of the University of Arizona, and the former Director of Admissions at San Miguel High School in Tucson. His assignment in the 2008-2009 academic year will be to his alma mater in Los Angeles, Cathedral High.

His vows were pronounced in the chapel at Mont La Salle in Napa with dozens of family, friends, and Brothers there to support and welcome him. After this solemn pronouncement,

In prayer, Brother Christopher dedicates himself completely to God by promising to live in association with the Brothers in their communal life of service.  To this end he vows chastity, poverty, obedience, association for the service of the poor through education, and stability in the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools

Brother Chris spoke the following vow:

Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, prostrate with the most profound respect before your infinite and adorable majesty, I consecrate myself entirely to you to procure your glory as far as I shall be able and as you will require of me.

For this purpose I, Brother Christopher, promise and vow to unite myself, and to remain in society, with the Brothers of the Christian Schools who are associated to conduct, together and by association, schools for the service of the poor. I promise to go wherever I may be sent and to do whatever I may be assigned by the body of the Society or its superiors.

Wherefore, I promise and vow association for the service of the poor through education, chastity, poverty, obedience, and stability in the Institute according to the Bull of Approbation and the Rule of the Institute.
I promise to keep these vows faithfully for a period of one year.

In testimony thereof, I have signed. Done at Mont La Salle on the ninth of August, in the year of Our Lord two thousand eight.

Brother Chris was one of three novices to spend the past year in novitiate at Mont La Salle. The other two men are from the Baltimore District of the Christian Brothers and have returned to that District to take their vows and commence the next step in their Lasallian vocations.  Brother John Luczkowski, FSC, who is 27, will teach at St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C.  Brother Peter Nguyen, FSC, 30 years of age, will teach at Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, PA.

Brother Stanislaus Campbell with Brother Chris

Brother Stanislaus Campbell, FSC, provincial of the District of San Francisco, said, “It has been a blessing and a joy to have these novices at Mont La Salle for the past year. Brothers Chris, John, and Peter are witnesses to the fact that there are young men still interested in and called to the Brothers' life. Our prayers and wishes for success go with them as they profess their vows for the first time and return to a full-time teaching apostolate.”
