A scholarship fund in honor of Brother David Brennan, FSC, has been established by the Lasallian Education Fund. Brother David was a former President of Christian Brothers’ Winery in Napa and Visitor (or Provincial) of the San Francisco District for eight years spanning 1995-2003. During his term as Visitor, he was energetic in refocusing the Brothers’ educational apostolates to address more concretely the needs of the poor. The Lasallian Education Fund (LEF) was established under his direction as a foundation for the specific purpose of gathering donations to support Lasallian educations for low-income students. He was also responsible for initiating a 5% Program requiring District schools to provide a specific portion of financial aid to very low income students. He actively worked to found schools specifically targeting disadvantaged students. Beyond the West Coast, he extended support to international educational endeavors that assisted the poor.
Brother Donald Johanson, current Visitor of the San Francisco District, confirmed Br. David’s dedication to economically disadvantaged students: “A man of business acumen and a man of deep faith. . . , Brother David has been tireless in securing educational opportunities for those without the resources to pay tuition, creating schools that have helped many students break out of the cycle of poverty into which they were born.”
The new scholarship fund will continue his legacy of financial assistance to educate the poor. Monies from the fund will be distributed through LEF, with 90% dedicated to schools and programs under its support, and 10% dedicated to the Lasallian International Children’s Fund to meet urgent needs of international projects.
Leadership gifts have already been assigned to establishing the scholarship fund. Contributions to the Brother David Brennan Scholarship Fund may be sent to the Lasallian Education Fund, 100 Shoreline Hwy, B-386, Mill Valley, California 94941.
