BROTHER CHRISTIAN CONNERS, FSC,
a De La Salle Christian Brother for nearly 54 years,
has died in Napa.

Brother Christian Conners, FSC, a member of the Holy Family Community of Brothers at Mont La Salle in Napa, died in Napa on Friday, July 13, 2007, at the age of 94.

Born Victor Christian Conners, Brother Christian was a native of Eureka, California, the son of George Wilbert Conners and Vincencia Valdes. He entered the De La Salle Christian Brothers in 1953, receiving the religious habit on August 14, 1953 and making his perpetual vows on August 12, 1959. Brother Christian is survived by his nephew, Rob Conners of Sebastopol, his niece Kathleen Slavens of Napa, and grand and great-grand nephews and nieces.

Brother Christian served at La Salle High School in Pasadena as a maintenance superintendent for ten years, and then at Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga as a library assistant for fifteen years before his semi-retirement in 1983. He joined the Holy Family Community of retired Brothers in 1992,

Brother Brendan Kneale, FSC, who collects and edits the oral histories of Brothers of the District, said, “Brother Christian was an unusual and even amazing man, a man of faith and zeal, of charity and helpfulness, of humor and seriousness, of regularity and adaptability, of quiet and volubility, of prayer and action—and many other virtues.”

Funeral services are on Friday, July 20, in the Mont La Salle Chapel, 4401 Redwood Road, Napa, California. Viewing begins at nine o’clock and the funeral liturgy at ten o’clock. Burial will follow in the Brothers cemetery.
