Farewell to Brother John Johnston, FSC, Brother of the Midwest District, who served as Superior General of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools from 1986 to 2000. He died on October 11 in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 73.
Brother Stanislaus Campbell, FSC, Visitor of the District of San Francisco, remarked, "Brother John will be especially remembered for his many pastoral letters to us Brothers over the course of his terms as Superior General. These incisive documents summoned us to consider various aspects of our lives as Brothers and to act in ways faithful to our Lasallian charism so as to be effective Christian educators in our contemporary world. Brother John was also especially concerned with the development of the meaning of Association as it applied to both Brothers and Lasallian Partners. In our District of San Francisco he was the principal presenter at the Colloquium on Association in February 2005. Participants were very grateful for his insightful remarks that advanced their understanding and appreciation of this vital topic. These are only a few of the things for which we deeply appreciate Brother John. May he have eternal life with all the saints!"
