Position Available: Assistant Principal

De Marillac Academy seeks a highly motivated, experienced, mission-centered, and energetic Assistant Principal to join our team for the 2007-2008 academic year.  De Marillac is a Catholic, co-educational school in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District.  The school was established in 2001 and is co-sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers and the Daughters of Charity.    It is a member of a national network of NativityMiguel Schools and is dedicated to serving a low-income population.  It is tuition-free and seeks students who would be considered “at-risk” because of social, academic, economic, and/or family circumstances. 

The school currently serves a diverse student body of 80 fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders.  During the 2007-2008 school year, De Marillac will expand its academic program to include a fifth grade.

De Marillac operates under a President/Principal model of leadership.  The Principal is the educational leader of the school, directly responsible to the President for the daily operations of the school and the teaching/learning process.  The Assistant Principal reports directly to the Principal. The responsibility demands a close working relationship with the Principal, the faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community at large.

Required Qualifications:

• Teaching credential and Master’s degree or higher
• Four or more years of experience as a teacher and/or administrator
• Passion for students, faith formation, community building, character development, learning, and excellence
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience working in and with underserved communities
• Familiarity with current educational research

Desired Qualifications:

• Practicing Roman Catholic who sees his/her commitment to Catholic education as a ministry
• Fluency in Spanish
