Position: Religious Studies Teacher
The mission of Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory is to provide students with a meaningful Catholic, college preparatory education in the Lasallian/Vincentian tradition. The school subscribes to an outcomes-based educational approach that is embraced and enlivened by our dynamic, collaborative Religious Studies Department faculty.
We seek a dynamic religious studies teacher with a strong theological background who will fit in well with the culture of the school community and our Religious Studies Department while supporting our school’s vibrant co-curricular program. Current part-time positions are also available in our Campus Ministry Program and may be combined with a teaching position. Major Areas of Responsibility
- Model for students and the entire school community the characteristics of a Lasallian/Vincentian educator;
- Support SHCP’s mission, philosophy and ESLRs;
- Design and/or implement courses and units that effectively promote department outcomes and adhere to the scope and sequence as determined by the department;
- Plan what students will learn, how they will learn and how they will be assessed from an outcomes-based perspective that features common units and key assignments appropriate to the grade level within the academic discipline;
- Provide well-prepared unit/lesson plans and classes;
- Provide regular and varied assessments of student learning to compile appropriate grades and properly determine what and how ALL students are learning;
- Communicate well with students, parents, and school personnel;
- Continue personal and professional growth;
- Work with the Academic Resource Specialist and/or counselors to accommodate appropriately students who have special learning needs;
- Keep current and complete grading and attendance records
- Provide a sound, effective academic learning experience;
- Promote a healthy, interactive learning environment;
- Prefect and supervise students outside of the classroom;
- Actively support the co-curricular programs of the school community.
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in theology;
- Ability to work collaboratively to promote students learning;
- A practicing Catholic.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in theology;
- Experience as a classroom teacher;
- Teaching credential (or equivalent) or work toward it;
- Experience in a Catholic high school setting.
