Position:  Principal

De Marillac Academy seeks a highly motivated, experienced, mission-centered, and energetic Principal to join our team for the 2008-2009 academic year.  De Marillac is a Catholic, co-educational school in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District.  Established in 2001, the school is co-sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers and the Daughters of Charity, and is a member of the national network of NativityMiguel Schools dedicated to serving low-income populations.  De Marillac is tuition-free and seeks students who would be considered "at-risk" because of social, academic, economic, and/or family circumstances.  The school serves a diverse student body of 100 fourth-eighth graders.  De Marillac operates under a President/Principal model of leadership, with an Interim Principal currently serving for the 2007-2008 school year. 

The Principal is the educational leader of the school, directly responsible to the President for the daily operations of the school and the teaching/learning process.  The responsibility demands a close working relationship with the President, the faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community at large.

The Principal, as Chief Operations Officer of the school, has the primary responsibility for achieving the mission of De Marillac Academy by maintaining and developing a needs-based curriculum, providing counseling and guidance services to students, and maintaining and developing a vibrant and meaningful campus ministry program.  The Principal also develops ample programs to meet the co-curricular needs of the students.

Required Qualifications:

• Practicing Roman Catholic who sees his/her commitment to Catholic education as a ministry
• Teaching credential and Master’s degree or higher
• Eight or more years of experience as a teacher and/or administrator
• Passion for students, faith formation, community building, character development, learning, and excellence
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Experience working in and with underserved communities
• Familiarity with current educational research
