Position: Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction
Academic leadership is critical to achieving the mission of nurturing, inspiring, challenging, and motivating students who then can make a difference in the world. Academic leadership for La Salle High School should include the ability to focus on and articulate a clear vision; good stewardship of relationships, assets, institutional legacy, culture, civility and values; the ability to assess individual capability; an understanding of the philosophy and practice of one-voice management, and; a commitment to education excellence.
Minimum Standards and Required Areas of Expertise
The Associate Principal, as chief advisor to the CEO and Principal with respect to academic concerns will be expected:
- to embrace the Lasallian heritage and tradition and to embody the mission;
- to possess considerable knowledge of the current literature, trends, methods, and developments in the areas of curriculum, and proven expertise in curriculum instruction;
- to demonstrate expertise in faculty recruitment, support, supervision, evaluation and professional development including but not limited to the ability to effectively assess existing professional development needs, and to effectively provide formative feedback;
- to have knowledge of principles and standards of management including but not limited to planning, organization, decision-making, problem solving, and organizational procedures.
Additional Areas of Expertise Considered to Be of High Value
The Associate Principal should be conversant in the relationship of technology and learning; able to create effective coalitions; have strong communication skills; be skilled at delivering oral presentations to a wide variety of audiences including the Board of Trustees, the Faculty, Parents, and Community Groups; able to assist in long-range strategic planning; knowledgeable about major educational developments; able to assess existing systems and champion new and innovative solutions, and; able to collect, combine and reformulate data.
Interpersonal and Character Traits
La Salle desires and requires a person who is of strong faith and integrity, is emotionally mature, a team player, diplomatic, can demonstrate political acuity, and is able to hold teachers accountable.
Educational Preparation
A master’s degree in education administration and 10 to 15 years of school experience including administration, knowledge of curriculum instruction and classroom experience. An Ed. D. in an area related to this position is highly desired, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above.
La Salle High School is a private Roman Catholic co-educational preparatory school founded in 1956. It is an educational community inspired by the traditions of St. John Baptist de La Salle with a student body of 760. La Salle is affiliated with the Western Catholic Educational Association and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
