La
Salle Pasadena Prays and
Donates After Hurricane
 On
September 2, the entire
community at La Salle High
School of Pasadena came together
to collect money for the
victims of Hurricane Katrina
at the Mass of the Holy Spirit.
During the first liturgy
of the school year, Father
Bill Nicholas ’88 from
St. Cecilia’s in San
Francisco; Father Richard
Krekelberg from St. Rita’s
in Sierra Madre; Father Francis
Dang from Assumption in Los
Angeles; Father Joe Moniz
from St. Philip’s in
Pasadena; Father Paul Fitzpatrick
from Ss. Felicities and Perpetua
in San Marino; and Father
Francis Mendoza from St.
Andrew’s in Pasadena
joined the La Salle community
in prayer. Collection baskets
were passed during the Mass,
and students, faculty, administration,
alumni, and parents donated
money for fellow Lasallian
schools that were damaged
by Hurricane Katrina. By
the end of the liturgy, the
collection baskets held almost
$8,000, and by the end of
the day donations had reached
more than $10,000. A similar
outpouring of charity was
seen last year in the collection
for the Asian Tsunami Relief
Fund.
 The
three Lasallian schools
that are damaged are St.
Paul’s School in Covington,
De La Salle in New Orleans,
and Christian Brothers School
in New Orleans. St. Paul’s
School sustained a great
deal of wind damage but no
flooding; De La Salle sustained
a great deal of water damage
and may be closed for several
months before reopening.
At this point the condition
of Christian Brothers School
is not known.
La Salle High Pasadena
Principal Pat Bonacci says
that the money collected
for the hurricane relief
fund will go to the New Orleans-Santa
Fe District. Bonacci also
says that he would like to
take part in bringing in
any student from any of the
three schools who has family
in our region that would
like to attend La Salle,
just as other Lasallian schools
around the nation have done.
