In
1932, the Brothers moved to Mont La Salle
and built the first of the existing
buildings. The history
of Mont La Salle since then details the beginnings of many Brothers’
vocation and the beginnings of the former
Christian Brothers Winery. Still primarily
the home for many Brothers, today the
buildings and surrounding groves and gardens
host the following activities:
De La Salle Institute:
The DLSI offices house the operational
head quarters of the Brothers and the
Lasallian schools and other ministries
of the San Francisco District.
The
Christian Brothers Retreat and Conference
Center: Catering to the needs of the groups from within the
District and from the outside, the Retreat
and Conference Center provides overnight
accommodations, indoor and outdoor meeting
and gathering spaces, chapel spaces for
prayer and concerts, as well as meals
and dining.
The San Francisco District Archives: Records of over
135 years of the Brothers’ works on the
West Coast are housed for research and
future generations.
Christian Brothers Ranch: In order to
learn responsibility and support their
education, over 20 children participate
in a 4-H style program.
The Brothers’ Communities: Three communities of Brothers make Mont
La Salle their home: the Provincialate
Community, the USA/Toronto Novitiate Community,
and the Holy Family Community of retired
Brothers.
The Cemetery: Nestled in the embrace of the forest
hillside, the cemetery continues as the
final resting place of deceased Brothers.
