Since the 1990s when Justin-Siena High School decided to retire the Indian Brave mascot to avoid disrespect to Native Americans, they have been searching for a replacement. Students, working with the local Wappo Indian tribe, discovered that they could keep the Braves name by recreating the image as an authentic symbol sensitive to the Wappo culture.
