Lifelong Learning features Brother La Salle Bossong, FSC. Brother La Salle has served in a number of high schools in the District and has just been assigned to Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, California.

Over the past more than fifty years as a Christian Brother, I have had the happiness of living in community with some wonderful men dedicated as Religious and as Lasallian educators.

I have always found it an enriching experience to have lived with so many individuals of varied personalities, talents, interests, and dedication. We have shared many joys, sorrows, defeats, victories, celebrations, moments of prayer, dialogue, crisis solving, laughs, as well as conflicts. If it hadn't been for what we call 'obedience' in the Religious life, I probably would never have chosen to live with individuals that I couldn't judge ahead of time I’d be compatible with. But being 'assigned' to work in a given school and to be a member of the associated community, I came to associate with so many who have not only been Brothers in the formal sense of the word, but real friends who have shared their wisdom, example, encouragement, forthrightness, athletics, play, conversation, affection, religious fidelity, and love for youth. Some of the Brothers had been my teachers; others I had taught. They were administrators, fellow teachers, saints, artists, musicians, card sharks, nature lovers, composers, authors, recluses, jokesters, confidants, prophets, adventurers, theologians, scholars, specialists, gourmands and cooks, gardeners, always expressing a sense of brotherliness and constant self-sacrifice and love for those they educated.

I can truly say I have been blessed for having had such a varied experience of being a 'brother' of Brothers.
