Lasallian Partners
For years, dedicated lay
women and men have worked alongside the De La Salle Christian Brothers in their schools
and apostolic works. These colleagues, or "Partners," participate in the work of
the District of San Francisco at every level. In 1998, Lasallian Brothers and Partners in
the District of San Francisco participated in the publication of an historic document
entitled "The District of San Francisco: Its Future and Promise." In the
documents Context for Action, Partners spoke of their role in realizing the
vision of Saint John Baptist de La Salle in the world today.
"Those of
us Partners who are lay, Catholic, or otherwise Christian recognize that our participation
in the Lasallian educational mission in communion with one another and with the Brothers
is a response to an imperative of our baptism to proclaim the Gospel, to be co-responsible
in fulfilling the mission of Jesus Christ. Our participation in this educational mission
is a necessary and fitting one, for our baptismal vocation requires that we proclaim the
Gospel in the secular conditions that are the very fabric of our lives."
In
recent years, the Lasallian family has been graced with several special
groups of Partners. Les Amis des Frères
are former De La Salle Christian Brothers who remain in close association
with the Institute to assist in the work of the Brothers. Our Lasallian Volunteers
Movement is formed of Partners living in community life with the Brothers
from one to three years. Lasallian
Youth, students in Lasallian centers for learning, share
in a special way in the work of the Brothers through service to fellow
Lasallian communities and in their own local communities. Lasallian
Collegians Network allows graduates of Lasallian secondary schools
to stay in contact and/or engaged in the Lasallian educational mission.
