A highlight of this year’s Huether Lasallian Conference in Washington D.C. was the signing of a children’s rights statement, “Standing for the Children.” With their signatures, the Regional leadership of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in the USA-Toronto Region affirmed their commitment to promoting protection of the rights of children, thereby helping them to achieve their full human dignity. The Regional leadership team includes Bro. Robert Schieler, FSC, General Councilor, and Visitors of the four Districts of the Region.

The statement is in support of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child which was adopted in 1989 and ratified by all countries, except the US and Somalia. It calls upon civil, political, and religious leaders throughout the world to make real progress in the protection of children's rights.
