De Marillac Students Go Green, San Francisco Applauds

De Marillac Academy was honored in May at a San Francisco City Hall reception hosted by the city and county Department of the Environment. With a 97% rate of waste diversion, De Marillac Academy had the highest rate of waste diversion among all 285 schools participating in the composting program sponsored by the Department of the Environment.

De Marillac Academy, which serves families from the Tenderloin District and other at-risk areas of San Francisco, is the only tuition-free, Catholic school in San Francisco. The unique year-round program includes a long school day, intensive personal attention, and a graduate support program. The school for fourth through eighth-graders is sponsored jointly by the Daughters of Charity and the De La Salle Christian Brothers of the District of San Francisco.
